What is Ancestry?
Do you want the corporate answer or the real answer? Let’s start with the real answer. It is the largest collection of online genealogy records. In real terms it is the largest collection of genealogical databases, such as census records, death records, and more. Other sites will claim to be the largest or have the most names, but in truth Ancestry.com really has no competition when it comes to genealogy online.
Why use Ancestry?
Well you have two choices. You can to a genealogical library, but who knows where to find one of those, or you could go online and quickly start finding your ancestors. In my experience, it is much less frustrating to go online, do a quick search, and start revealing my heritage. To get started, take a look at our first lesson to sign up for Ancestry.com and start finding your ancestors.
What does it cost?
There are a couple of different options. First, you can get a 14-day free trial to look under the hood, then sign up for a subscription. Or if you are free for a couple of days and would rather spend your time looking through microfiche, go to your nearest genealogical library and have fun. One of the largest in the world is found in Salt Lake City, Utah. So book your tickets, hotel, and get started.
